INTERNSHIT

on the first day of work, our director seems angry. not at us. at the new toll price. if i use a car to come to college (where i currently undergo the intern), i'd have to pay the same price which is RM6.40 go and return. it's insane. it used to be RM4.oo whichw as already damn a lot to me. and i had a plan to buy a car in the near future.

even he, who won over 60 awards from local and foreign countries that i think earn rm30-40k a month is angry about this matter. imagine those people who earn rm1k. life must be insane.

later that day, i chat with some stranger. he said add RM6.40 with RM3.20. that's the amount he pay everyday for toll! and he said, it feels like he's busting his ass everyday working just to pay toll!

u guys still think that street protest to show ur dissatisfaction is not relevant in Malaysia??

so, yeah...i'm currently working (read: slaving). no allowence or whatsoever. luckily some of my groupmate are a bit rebellious and always show dissatisfaction and stuffs. hopefully they'll pay us. they said they're working on it.

the workload are not that much but the expectation from the director is sometimes. beyond our ability. we are expected to come with artworks which are better than the pros.

Just got this message in myspace, a review of some stuffs from the editor of Folk Zine, Sweden. Thank bro!

Hey hey Nizang, Did you ever get my package? Haven't heard from you since... Hope everything is alright with you! I just finished reviewing the stuff you sent to me, sorry for the delay. I've just had loads and loads of things to do. The reviews won't be published on folkzine.tk before I know what to put in Folkzine #2 (paper fanzine) which I'm putting together right now. Anyway! Here they are... Enjoy! ;D - Andreas

Mosh #9 Paper Release: 2006 Language: Eng./Malay. Pages: A5, 40

This is Mosh fanzine all the way from Malaysia, and it's a really nice little "sneak-peak" on the punk/hardcore scene there. I always enjoy getting information on other scenes, we're all here for one common thing but we struggle along with different things to get there. Loads of bands have been interviewed, mostly with the same questions, but you get a good picture on what they are all about. There are a couple of interesting articles here with topics on everyday social problems, empathy, second hand smoking and local scene problems, which all are a nice read. A down part with the zine is that the editor couldn't really decide whether to do a zine in English or Malay. Sentences are half part one language and half part the other, in the beginning there is a survey where many of the answers are in Malay, and at the end of the zine there is a whole column/article completely in Malay. It's not very fun to start reading a fanzine and then come to the conclusion that you're not to going to be able read all the content unless you go and translate it. Another thing that annoyed me a bit was that several of the topics on interviews and articles were misleading. Apart from that, it's a great fanzine with a nice layout and good content. And if you're interested in the scene in Malaysia, go check this one out!

inikah hidup - Soundtracks of War and Destruction CD Label: Ronin rec., Nervhous rechords... Release: June, 2006 No. of songs: 11

inikah hidup is a seven-piece screamo/emo/hardcore band from Malaysia. I'm not sure how to put this, first of all the music is fairly well built up and could have been good if it wasn't for the fact that their guitars aren’t tuned together. I mean, if you're supposed to record a CD why don't you make sure the instruments are tuned together? And second of all, as the cherry on top of this cake. The vocals are some seriously over exaggerated screamo. Ever heard an emo-parrot screaming? (Sounds a bit like that) Even though it isn't very good, I have to point out that its one unique singing style. My best guess is that this band is a group of friends who got together for the love of music, and play the best they can because of that passion. There is another vocal on track five, which is really good but could need some rehearsing. Other than that, the spoken word parts are well implemented and as I said before, the music has a nice structure. I believe that the band has got some really nice ideas for the future, but the overall impression is as follows; practice more together and please do tune your instruments before recording any material.

I was there last night at the benefit show. But I only watched some artistic performances and Carburetor Dung's set. I wanted to watch the film screening, but it's shown the same time with other events. Not many watched it. The screening took place at The Ricecooker Shop while the performance was at the top floor, a very cool and nice place! There were free food but when I was there to check it out, everything is finished. Licin. If you're at CM, I recommend you go there. Ricecooker Shop (no, they don't sell ricecooker) and Bau Bau Cafe will be opening there soon.
So, Ujay, Rizie, Che Mat and Razi went to Yusoof and ate+lepak+borak. These are some photos from last night.

ni ade banyak review patutnye aku tulis utk zine Korok Kring#1. Rizie lupe pulak nak masukkan. aduh! selalu mcm tu. tu la, buat keje last minit. asik tertinggal je. Takpe la, aku taruk kat sini and maybe masuk zine lain nanti. Enjoi!
Taste Of Flesh ‘Hail hail Thrash’ CD (rip kids/teriak keras)/RM6
Pitara rt. 05/14 no. 49 depok 16436 Indonesia. Atau Rip Kids: jl. Dukuh 2 no. 169. depok 1 -16432, Indonesia www.ripkids.com (nizang)

V/A Half The Battle/Play/Feud (Delusion Of Terror/Take Four)/RM15
Delusion of Terror, 299 Bintog, Plaridel, Bulacan 3004 Phillipines delusion.of.terror@gmail.com or TakeFour Collective, P.O Box 3900 CPO, Manila 1000 Phillipines, getintouchxxx@yahoo.com or takefourcollective.com (nizang)

Cannaris ‘cannarijuana' cdr (Gegey)/RM4+stamp
Aku kurang arif utk mereview music metal. Nak kata single, bukan single. Lirik tidak disediakan, jadi aku tak tahu apa mesej yang ingin disampaikan. cannaris@gmail.com or www.myspace.com/cannaris (nizang)

Parkinson/Reconstruct (Broken Noise/Black Konflik)/RM10
Siallah. Aku tak jumpe mane pegi 3-way split grind aku antara Parkinson, SMG dengan Kereno Neko. Takpelah. Black Konflik Records, Aizuddin, no. 59, Lorong 3, Taman Kenanga, 27600 Raub, Pahang, visikonflix@hotmail.com
Blusterd ‘pocketful of dreams’ ep cdr (stuck)/RM10
Hail, modern rock! Stuck music 2929-J, Taman Muhibbah, 05350, Jalan Sultanah, Alor Star, Kedah, Malaysia www.myspace.com/blusterdoffline

V/A Thrash It Up! Cd (Epidemic Records)/RM10
Hahahah! Memang laju dan rocking sekali. Antara lagu kegemaran aku ialah ‘Punk as fukk, fukked as you!’, ‘it’s ok!’, ‘shoot and kill’. Lirik mereka berkenaan ketidak-kisahan samada sxe, vegan, punk mabuk: semuanya sama saje, otai dalam scene, mahu bom syarikat MNC kalau dalam penjara ada scene hardcore, internet dan skatepark! Haahhaha…! Aku beli by hand sendiri dari tokey label mase gig CBU in KL tempoh hari. (nizang)

Bawah Tanah Comic Fanzine (A5/copied/BM)/RM2+stamps
Dah lama scene hc/punk local takde comic zine/art zine selain zine Core Peps. Mohd Amri bin Mohamad Noh No. 52, Jln Saga 1, Tmn Saga, 68000 Ampang, Selangor atau gang38th2000@yahoo.com (nizang)

Ripple Mag #42 (Bahasa Indonesia/printed)/RM25
Aku pernah beli magazine ni saiz poket #2 masa kat gig Heaven’s Studio, Ampang zaman Pak Kaduk dulu. Mahal sikit pun takpe. Aku ni mmg suka beli walaupun tak bace sangat pun majalah! Lagipun support kedai Tools And Trade. Hoho! TENGKUJUH FEST gig 06, the report

I’ve been busy these couple of days with these two events: Tengkujuh Jam/Fest gig in Kuala Terengganu, 23rd Dec and You’ll never walk alone gig in Kota Bharu, 25th Dec.

I’ve been asking around and planning with Joe of Gegey music to do the Tengkujuh Fest along with me by the end of 2006 because there was no gig yet all through 2006 in Terengganu and the name suits to be held in Nov or Dec. So, Joe didn’t manage to find place to do the event and I was busy in KL studying. After the Raya Jam my friends and I organized at 60’s studio, Rudy contacted me and said he found a place to do a gig and I was excited to hear about that. Furthermore, the owner of the place wants us to held a gig there!

As soon as I finished my semester and got home, kids been saying that the venue is not a suitable or safe place to held a gig because there are houses surrounding the chalet. And yeah when it’s near to the gig day, Rudy sent me an sms saying that the people living there already know about the event and was mad at the chalet owner and the owner asked us to find another place for the gig.

We were forced to find a new venue for the gig. The flyers have been spread and all, but we don’t have any alternative. So, I called Sutra Beach resort as suggested by Rudy. They said the hall rent is only RM400 and it’s okay if we don’t want to take the food.

When Shoki, Taki and Keng (Clumsy Ruby) and I went all the way there to pay the deposit and see the hall, the deal is different. For the big hall (ballroom), RM400 is only for half of the day and full day rent is RM800. For RM400, we can rent a little smaller room for full day but it’s compulsory to take the food, minimum for 100 persons. The food itself cost RM20 per person. And that’s crazy.

I was frustrated and got no other option and just settled with our last resort. Doing the gig at a jam studio, 60’s studio. Lucy pulled out last minute but yeah, all of us already assumed that they won’t make it in the first place because the place is small. It can fit like 50-60 persons in it but it’s super duper warm and hot.

The band that performed on that day was Cock Say Cock Dung, Fret, Killing Steward, Civil Disorder (from KL), Brayok (from Ipoh), The Goodnite Goodies, The Obvious, In Curl (from Alor Star), Clumsy Ruby, Love As Arson, and Dirty Divider.

Thanks to all who came for the gig. Thanks to all the bands especially who came from far. Thanks to the kids who came and pay for the ticket. All of the money went back to the scene. We paid the instruments, the venue and the bands…

Hope to see you again in the upcoming gigs or other events.
